That virus (or whatever it was I had) certainly got the better of me and lots of things went by the wayside including (blog and book) reading and knitting so I ended up only making a half dozen of the fair isle beanies – a small effort compared to a couple of years ago for a different charity. I popped In (masked) for a short while the night they were ‘due’, only stopping long enough to hear what the next challenge’ was.
- “Now you all know 4 year old boys don’t want to be little kids – they strive to be big ‘uns. . . trouble is they’re too old for toddler type clothing yet sometimes older styles don’t look quite right on them. Let’s get the grey matter working and see what we can come up with”
It took me a little while dithering around before deciding that my contribution will be a jumper along the lines of The Trio – which will also be a way of using up some of the ordinary ‘run of the mill’ acrylic I favour. It may not be top of the range (remember my run in with the yarn snobs) but it knits well (wears well is what I’ve heard from others with children) and – unlike the red acrylic my ‘friend’ asked me to use – is soft..not scratchy.
A touch of Aran means there’ll be small 4st/4row cables and columns of ‘knit/purl through the backs’ that are crossed at times plus honeycomb up the middle – plain side edges, back and sleeves though….because it’s easier (and less bulky) 😊
And this is what came home from the library the other day
Perfect to keep me company between rows as I set the pattern
Kaffe Fassett in the Studio
I wish I could remember the name of those yellow roses – they and most of the others were planted about 15years ago….as per usual I never wrote it/them down and labels don’t last that long – so I just enjoy them for what they are each year.
The spring flush is coming to an end. Some very hot days, cold wet ones as well as windy ones have given us a mix of blooms with old, current and a few ‘promises of what’s to come’ on all the bushes at the same time
All will be having their summer haircuts very soon

Also being Wednesday it’s time to thank Kat for hosting Unraveled Wednesday
Love those roses. The names of many of ours escapes me too.
I hope your virus is a thing of the past

It’s a very homesick ‘illness’ EC. . It leaves for a while then a much milder version returns. The sooner it runs out of steam the better I’ll feel.

It’s slow going at the moment Joanne. A row here and then is all I’m managing which is very unusual.

I hope you’re completely recovered. It’s no fun to be sick. I still wear a mask when we’re out. I really like that stand your vase of roses sits in.

I’ll do a post about the little statue Kay. Just need to work it out so look out for it in maybe a couple of weeks time

Well done on the roses and yes it’s getting warmer and humid here in Western Sydney. I am still in recovery mode from RSV and don’t I know it when I try to ‘do what I used to do’… visiting from #wwwhimsy

We had it warm for a while Denyse then it went away. It’s been a very temperamental spring, not knowing what to do from one week to the next. Gale force winds today along with rain.
Hopefully you’ll feel much better before the holidays are with us . . and of course there’s your dad’s very big birthday to look forward to. Yours also 😊

Hi Cathy – that knitting pattern is looking gorgeous and those yellow roses are divine. It’s officially summer soon – very wet days of late and apparently a heatwave looming. Summer is not my favourite season in Brisbane – way too humid and hot and lots of wild storms. Thank you for linking up with #WWWhimsy Hope you have a wonderful week ahead. I’m looking forward to seeing that jumper when it’s completed!

At the rate I’m going Min, that little jumper is not going to be finished for a while.
Even as early as mid September the humidity in the Far North has risen…that was when we left Bowen to make our way home. Years ago I revelled in it – not so much now.

Could the roses be a David Austin rose ‘Golden Celebration’? Ring a bell?

I think that Austin rose is a double Andrew – even with those huge flower heads this is definitely a single. No matter what they’re called they are beautiful aren’t they

many virsues give you a type of brain fog which makes it hard to do almost anything…rest but also try to “axe” the fog until it’s not much trouble anymore

As usual Im admiring your knitting. You have a talent for making small garments which look wonderful.
Get strong quickly and knit on.
I love Kaffe Fassetts work. Lovely to look at

Thanks Linda, I’ve got so used to making these small sizes there’s no way I’d be able to finish an adult garment.
I agree with you on Kaffe Fassett – he just chooses the right colours for every design

Hello Christie
Not 100% yet but working on it. The Spring roses have been fabulous this year so I’m hoping after their trim the next flush will be just as good.

I hope you are feeling better. The little jumper is going to be just perfect for a big little boy. The roses and other flowers are beautiful. It is hard to keep track of all the garden labels. I often lose them but the flowers are so nice.

I’m feeling much better Jane – ‘cept for the days I don’t. Whatever it is/was seems to be lingering longer than I want. The eyes are fine now it’s the weariness I’m not happy with. Definitely not COVID unless the tests were incorrect so hopefully all will be well by the end of next week.

That’s a great expression for an illness that won’t go away – I’m hoping this will be the end of it Charlotte, it’s been hanging around for nearly a month now.
