🧶What about you….

Three weeks you say – yes, it’s been three weeks since I mentioned knitting
I’ve been thinking you might think that’s all I do
So I haven’t said a word about it for three whole weeks

But just in case you have been wondering what I’ve been up to
With my knitting that is
I’ll tell you that….

I finally finished the 4yr old which ended up being one of those ‘seemed like a good idea at the time but my heart really wasn’t in it’ things

I had a lot of fun knitting this the first time round and perhaps it was a bad choice for the ‘challenge’ but look nothing ventured nothing gained. And I certainly wasn’t going to rip it out and start something easier

December 2022

And as I’m still in my ‘make something simple’ by ‘using it up’ mood it means I’ve just about finished a classic style boys jumper which by adding stripes of various sizes means I’ve just about used up all the Grey and Royal Blue left overs. It does look very ‘boyish’ but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be worn by a girl

And the book Women of a certain rage – Various authors edited by Liz Byski 2021.

Blurb:- This book is the result of what happened when Liz Byrski asked 20 Australian women from widely different backgrounds, races, beliefs and identities to take up the challenge of writing about rage.

It was an op shop (charity/thrift) find, spotted and almost grabbed off the shelf after another person ‘pinched’ the car spot I was after. Saw the empty space as I drove into the car park, had my blinker on but she came in the other direction and just snuck in – I thought she was going to drive past so I could move in – but no, she just turned her wheels and snuck in there, right in front of me!
Settle down Catherine it was only a spot in a car park – it wasn’t your fault there wasn’t another one to be seen and you had to drive around looking for one. Rage does terrible things to your blood pressure 😡

******.
Last week I parcelled up these as well as a few other similar newborn sets plus everything else in the ‘box’ and dropped them off at a collection point so hopefully by now they’re making their way across town to the charity HQ. .
I’ve just noticed in the photo that many of the stitches on the blue cardigan look like they’re going ‘any which way but where they’re supposed to be’ – they don’t look like that in real life.
Trying to block acrylic yarn often results in a flat out of shape garment so better to not try than end up in tears.

So what are you up to.
‘What’s on your needles’ as the saying goes.
Have you been sewing, knitting, crocheting or making anything you’d be willing to tell us about? And have you come across any books you’d like to tell us about?

  1. The car park thing happened to us…a crafty so and so parked in the one remaining handicapped slot at the supermarket last week, even though she could see our blue stickered car right behind her. The security guard came over and told her to move out to the underground parking and, after a bit of argy bargy she pulled out and went away completely.

    1. That’s one of my pet peeves – someone parked in a handicapped spot without a blue sticker. Look at the road and mind your own business The Golfer says but I get annoyed at the cheek of someone doing that.

Hope you and Leo are keeping well

      1. It is annoying because we need the wider parking space to allow Leo to get into his wheelchair, still, at least the guard moved her on.
Leo’s not too well at the mmnent…it seems to go in cycles.

  2. i love all the little jumpers you make. I’m still working on my squares. Nice and simple and mindless And not too hot for women of a certain age.

    1. I dedicated last winter in Bowen to squares Angela. As you say simple easy on the mind knitting. That’s going to be some blanket when it’s finished.

  3. I’ve mainly been reading, doing puzzles, watching chosen series via streaming services, and being incredibly lazy…and doing a bit of writing. :)

  4. As always I love your knitting. You’ve done a mighty job and for charity. I’m trying to finish off a sleeveless jersey, vest, that I started months ago. Finally I’m doing the neck and sleeve edges. End in sight!

  5. this week hasn’t been my “best” but that’s a story that probably won’t be told. All to do with “other not so nice people” – am now in being lazy – particularly as the Easter break is nearly here. I shall reset my life soooooooooon

  6. We knew someone who bragged to us about stealing a car parking space in a similar situation but returned to find his car key scratched down the side. Deserved in my opinion. Now, I am sure Catherine’s rage did not extend to keying a car, no matter how much she may have thought about it.

You’ll have to wait to when I write about it, but we had a cafe experience in Sydney where there were wooden knitting needles rather than plastic. Is Catherine being environmentally responsible by not using plastic knitting needles and switched to wood?

    1. lol Andrew all of Catherine’s knitting needles which I’ve had for many many years are metal (coated aluminium). I’ve tried (and broken plastic before – don’t ask) and wood certainly doesn’t appeal to me at all. I could be wrong but I tend to think they’d absorb any perspiration (damp hands) and that wouldn’t do your work any good

  7. I have started sewing lessons. Not planning on making anything yet. Just want to be able to handle a sewing machine. And do seams, edges, stuff. I’d like to learn to crochet too. But time…

  8. I love all the little sweaters. And I understand about acrylic. It is best to let those stitches do what they want to do. The book looks interesting. At 72, I enjoy reading what women write about aging. My age is definitely showing.

  9. Cathy, oh my goodness! I finally figured out why I couldn’t leave any comments. Duh! User error. I have been simply reading your posts online without clicking on them to actually open the individual posts.

Three weeks without mentioning knitting? I guess I can imagine that. I’m glad you did not say three weeks without thinking about knitting. That I cannot imagine!!!

Such beautiful work! And thanks for the book info!
