After what seemed like months and months of rain when we thought La Niña and her rain clouds would never go away it’s been nice not to have to cart a brolly around all the time
But it’s becoming obvious that we really do need it – the rain that is
Most of my plants can cope without it – now they’re starting to miss it. Everything is becoming dry and brittle.
Agapanthus (possibly one of the hardiest plants ever) are even starting to die off round the edges
And as for the grass….
Yes I know it’s not a necessity- some would say it’s definitely not necessary in today’s suburban house blocks
This patch in our back ‘garden’ has never received special treatment over the past 50yrs.
It gets watered when it rains – cut when it grows- never fed.
Normally it looks green and ‘healthy’
Doesn’t look like that at the moment 🙁
We’re nowhere near the pray for rain situation, Melbournes water storage levels are fine but last time I checked the one closest to us – Maroondah Dam at Healesville (30kms/30mins away) – it was only 64% full.
So a little bit of wet would be good.

Weather bureau have the tiniest prediction for tomorrow 0-1mm. Then dry again for a week. I don’t grow veggies but feel sorry for those home gardeners who do
On a brighter note at least I won’t have to worry if the washing will dry.

No, that’s a positive! I always dry mine on the line….the Americans here use dryers….why is beyond me!

mixed weather across the ditch with a couple of nights and the following days in “rain mode” and the grass outside is still green as.

Maybe we shouldn’t have complained so much when we had days/weeks/months of the stuff. Chased it away didn’t we!

Melbourne and Adelaide seem to be copping hot dry weather. We’ve been lucky up in Sydney, though the humidity has been worthy of Qld. I thought agapanthus were unkillable!

They definitely used to be. I remember they and everything else suffered during that 10yr drought we had ( millenium drought) but have been fine since.
No rain forecast for another week 🙁

That outdoor space looks dry to me. I hope you get some rain. It’s dry where we live and we had a rather dry winter. I suspect that Mother Nature isn’t happy with us.

Mediterranean summers – often long hot and dry. Very similar to the climate in Adelaide.

It’s when will the good soak arrives that the question. According to the BOM it won’t be next week. I do have a tank but begrudge using it on the grass.
