Does the inner square appear to be moving?
I found it online before Christmas when I was poorly with Covid
Wish I’d made a note of where
I might find the reason for the illusion

Come live love and laugh with me
Yesterday (April 25th) was Anzac Day
A day that was originally – devised to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (1914–1918).
A day that now – commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.

A few years ago a painting of a digger called Bluey caught my eye in an exhibition.

Here’s another that stopped me in my tracks a few weeks ago
Hanging in the entry to Dandenong RSL
This one is of an imaginary very young WW1 digger called Bertie
Highlighting not the heroism but the invisible trauma of war

Say hello to some little things I’ve had bubbling away in the background. A couple of little newborn sets for the baby programme…..knit over the last few weeks using left overs from other projects….from years ago in some cases 😊
Those odd ‘bits of this, bits of that’ half & less balls were getting out of hand
or should I say…..filling the bag and needed to be used up.
There was enough for backs as well as fronts on another two, not all 8plys are equal so they turned out slightly larger. The charity welcomes ‘traditional baby colours’

Made using a ‘favourite’ adaptable pattern…..we’ve all got them haven’t we😊.
This one couldn’t be easier if it tried – after the rib band the back is straight, on the fronts the only decrease to think about is for the neckline starting half way up and the sleeves consist of a rib band, several side increases then straight knitting with the cast off all in one line.
Here’s some others I prepared earlier 😊
It’s a style that lends itself to so many interpretations…. Over the years some worked – others, well they weren’t a fail, let’s just say I wouldn’t try it again (the fisherman’s rib pattern was too chunky for the sizing- but that’s what the recipient wanted)
Sometimes where reading is concerned – a bit like food and knitting when things aren’t going the way you’d like them to – ‘comfort’ books are all you want. What I call Australian historical is often where I go to….especially to those written by Darry Fraser. They are ‘lose yourself’ novels many of them about strong females in a man’s world in 1800s Australia
Elsa Goody Bushranger – Darry Fraser
When Elsa Goody’s father and brother George die in quick succession she and her sister Rosie are in trouble. Pursued by an unpleasant suitor with dubious motivation, Elsa leaves for Victoria on the hunt for a fortune in gold coins that her brother has hidden. If Elsa can find it she will be able to save Rosie and herself from married slavery.

Me…..I’m on the sunny side
Here’s two different live versions for you to enjoy
That shrub/bush/plant I was talking about cutting back on Monday is called
Oleander aka nerium Oleander
Nerium oleander is a woody perennial, shrub that can be trained into a small tree in the early stages of growth. The trunk is smooth, grey in colour while the branches are semi-rubbery and pliable.
Five-petal flowers of the straight species bloom in shades of white, yellow, pink and red source
It’s a plant that is grown all over the world
There is even an International Society dedicated to all things Oleander
http://oleander.org
A page on their site covers the (known) history of the plant
a little on the long side but it makes really interesting reading
http://oleander.org/from-whence/
If you live anywhere near Galveston Texas – April is Oleander month there
the International Society is organising their Oleander and Garden Festival
on Saturday 29th April 2023. Hopefully the weather will be kind for them.

The Oleander is one of the easiest plants to grow in Melbourne
In fact it seems to grow well all over Australia
It’s one of those pop in the ground and forget things
There are several of them growing along that paling fence
down the side of the driveway.
The pink flowers make a great contrast with the blue Agapanthus
when they flower simultaneously
These ones grow tall and bushy – but there are dwarf varieties as well
They are easy to keep in check
Growing too far in one direction – just give it a short back and sides
I even chopped them almost to ground level once
so we could have some work done nearby
Within a short while they had shot up and were lovely and bushy again
The sap plus most of the plant reputed to be poisonous
Don’t test the theory
Use gloves or wash your hands to be on the safe side

Dwarf Oleander
I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry the other morning – after several sunny days (when I had other things to do) we woke to this….and it poured all day.
I had planned to cut back the floppy branches on a just about finished flowering Oleander on the fence line because every time it rains I get soaked dripped on when I go to that side of the car.
No gardening done – and I got dripped on when I had to get something out of the car

*****
Wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry when I opened my inbox and this turned up.
Those ‘roving reporters’ who take candid shots at functions are a real pain.
I’d like to know who took away my teeth (they’re definitely there) and gifted me what looks like 10 extra kgs of fat body weight….plus I can’t even remember what I said that was so funny!

****
Poor little M (2yr old gt grandson) didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when mummy said, it’s time for your first haircut.
He’s a Big Boy now…..and we all know ice lollies make everything feel better

****
And I definitely had that same – ‘not sure whether to laugh or cry feeling’ – the other day when pre planning some ‘activities’ to take to Bowen. Have to be prepared you know….there’s only 12 weeks before we leave 😊
Great….there’s enough of all three colours left to knit one each of The Trio.
Bummer – after checking dye lots discovered all the Denim Blue weren’t the same
Going to be some serious thinking about how to use it…..sleeves from one- back/front from the others maybe.

It’s Monday morning again- first one in April – and I’m wondering what this week has in store for us all. No pool exercises for me today, I’m off to the ‘flu jab clinic
Where hopefully there’ll be lots of laughter and no tears
What is in store for you this week – what are you hoping for?
Oh and it’s not a laughing matter and possible crying would be taking it too far- but I’ve accidentally deleted some comments waiting approval from Friday’s post.
So….if you made one and can’t see it, please write another so I can publish it
