When will it end…..

A few things I’ve been thinking about……

I have missed my weekly walking in water exercise- it’s now about 3 months since the ‘pool’ was closed for what was described as ‘essential maintenance’ which has turned out to be a much larger undertaking than anyone expected. I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering ‘when will it end’

As was – end of November
End of December
End of January

It’s been revealed reopening is now planned for the end of March which can’t come soon enough for me. I’ve been happy enough to use the gym facilities for the active adult’s sessions but it certainly doesn’t seem to have the same effect as the gentle fluid movements in the water does.
I realise it’s a case of muscles being worked in a different manner but I’m a bit like the toddler who wants the red cup and not the identical but different coloured blue one in that I know what I like and won’t be happy until I get it 😊

When will it end…

I was muttering those words to myself after finishing this couple of rather long books. Both historical fiction – both 2024 publications
The Wartime Book Club – 512 pages plus extra information .
The Fallen Woman – 448 pages

I seem to have had a knack recently of finding things to read that ‘seemed like a good idea at the time’ mainly because others had said ‘they’re a great read, you’ll love them’. With these two, apart from not being able to connect with any of the main characters (all female) in either book I got the feeling that if the authors had researched something then it had to be included. Sometimes Less is more although I’m sure some publishers would disagree.

When will it end…..

I have been wondering when will we stop worrying if we have something more than we actually have?

It would appear all I’m suffering from is a common old cold!

My headache- runny nose – weepy eyes – sneezing- some coughing…..are just that……symptoms of a cold.

One of my very expensive antigen tests – well I certainly didn’t think $38 for 5 of these newfangled all singing all dancing ones was cheap when I needed them for The Golfer last December – has reassured me that (at that particular time yesterday) I wasn’t suffering from Covid or RSV or even Influenza A/B.
That will certainly make life a little easier – hot honey&lemon with the odd paracetamol and maybe a slug of cough mixture now and again should see me through……..unless things turn nasty 🙁

How about you….what are you wondering about today?

  1. Sorry about your common cold. Isn’t it amazing that a cure has not been found.

I think the author of Fallen Women was interviewed on radio, promoting her book. It sounding interesting.

I may have forgotten how to swim but gentle fluid movements in a pool sounds quite good for me.

  2. I hope your cold eases sooner than later… I think a just “simple cold” can make one very miserable! I keep thinking that finding a bit of an exercise group at a local pool might be the perfect thing… thanks for putting that back on my list!

    1. I’ll definitely endorse the aqua exercise idea Kat. Don’t think I’d be that keen on going out in my bathers with snow on the ground (even if it is a heated indoor pool) but if needs must so be it😊

  3. The sun is shining in the UK and the nitwits are out in force. Trying to leave a full car park today over a bridge that is shared between outgoing and incoming cars. I was half way over when an idiot sets off towards me blocking my exit! Why does the first appearance of nice weather do this to people! If you want to park in a full car park let people leave before you attempt to drive in!

    1. Sounds a little like ‘mad dogs and Englishmen’. Let’s hope that was your ‘one idiot a month’ allowance used.
Curious to know if there was an indicator board showing how many spaces left…..

  4. My “wondering” all week has been about our country. We are teetering over here in the states. Two friends are traveling in your part of the world for two months with the idea of immigrating. Others are considering Mexico and Canada. And of course my younger teaching friend who is thinking about Ireland. Life in the United States is under attack and the money right now is on escaping.

  5. I hope you feel better soon. I’ve not seen a test kit with all those options. There are times when they would come in handy. I’m with you, I think less is more in the world of books. Sometimes I wonder where the editors were when the book was ok’d for publication. For a number of years I went to a water aerobics class and really enjoyed. The chemicals in the water became too hard on my skin.

  6. Books wwhich could be cut in half without losing the story annoy me so much. Of course I just flick through to the end after a while. Spoils the book.

I had to have a covid test last week to go to a hospital for my eyes. I was tested for everything, all negative. Thank goodness it’s only 5 euro here. 5 euro for a paper which no one wanted to see once I got there. Oh well.

Enjoy the rest of the summer in good health

  7. I’m with you on the need for good and judicious editing. So much detail doesn’t give a book a sense of time and place.

Glad it’s just a cold you have.

Im wondering how I’m going to get everything done that needs doing before we fly out to Spain in 11 days.
