If we eat out….

If we eat out many more times I’ll have forgotten how to cook by the time we get home😊.
A fabulous curry – King prawn salad – plus Spanish mackerel & calamari rings all came my way during the last week!

Lunch for our day out in Ayr was at the Anzac Memorial Club (RSL) so food was what I call pub style. Basic, good value, usually pretty good. Best ‘no name’ curry I’ve had for a while – and so much of it. Doggy Bags were allowed (not always the case in some restaurants) so half of my enormous serve came ‘home’ with me.

Sunday saw us down at the marina having a fabulous lunch fresh off the boat at Birds Fish Bar. Quiet and almost empty when we arrived- busy, tables filled with families when we left

It’s changed a lot over the years, renovated after the COVID restrictions (no more BYO – they have a liquor license now- deters the noisy ones they say)……the fishing boats still tie up out the back and ‘deliver to the door’….can’t get fresher than that!

****.
And then this week there was one of our ‘special treats’ – Lunch at The Cove……the restaurant in the white building visible (far left side) across the bay from here at Queens Beach.

Certainly not posh by ‘big city standards’…… Simple decor, very basic tables and chairs, good food, well priced menu, open to the outside but protected…..with views to enjoy over and over again.

Oh, and when I start mentioning clothes that are shrinking and I’ve no idea why, you can all smile and nod knowingly 😊😊😊

      1. Good ingredients…but the treatment is dull. Nip up to Nicaragua though and it is a different story with much the same foodstuffs with which to work!

    1. The days of getting a good pub lunch here for $10 a head have now gone Andrew but if I remember rightly the most we paid for two meals was about $45 total. The Golfer had a beer and the price of those varied quite substantially from place to place!.
Enjoy the warm days. Will they be a one week wonder or signs of early Spring?

  1. Oh heavens! Those dishes all looks so, so good!! But your scenery… it is a boon to my mornings! Thank you! How fantastic to be able to sit and enjoy those gorgeous meals with such spectacular views! You are living the good life! (Hope your weekend is amazing!)

  2. The views are absolutely gorgeous. I’d say they were worth the price of the meal. And what’s wrong with forgetting how to cook for a while? 😉 I’d say enjoy that while you can. As we say in farmland, “make hay while the sun shines.”

  3. Hi Cathy, I do love a pub meal, but usually need to take a doggie bag home. The Cove looks like my kind of place. We ate out every day while we were on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve been told that holiday calories don’t count, but I’ve noticed my clothes are a little more snug than usual.

    1. lol on the holiday calories😊

It’s a fair while since I’ve asked for a doggy bag, most places we go seem to have cut down their serving sizes…..we often utilise the seniors menu as well as portions are much smaller

  4. Hi Cathy, we have discovered two local clubs – the golf club and the Leagues club which is at the end of our road. We enjoy cheap and cheerful meals with generous servings and it is nice to get out for a while. There is a marina not far from us and we have been thinking of joining the Yacht Club as social members to enjoy the delicious seafood the restaurant serves. #WWWWhimsy

    1. I’m all for enjoying the ‘delights’ of local clubs Sue …. as well as being a place to ‘get together’ they often plough part of profits back into the community which is a great thing on its own.

  6. How lovely it is to see these meals eaten in happy places like these. Sadly with the much smaller quantities B and I can manage to eat these days we are home-bound for meals. I used to enjoy going out for a meal on holidays. As for doggies bags so many just don’t allow it anymore.

Good on you for making the most of what you can where it’s sunshiney and blue skies!

  7. You’re correct on the ‘disappearing doggy bags’ Denyse – they used to be available at most restaurants. I think too many cases of (unproven) food poisoning from them not being refrigerated asap (left in cars or out on the kitchen bench) put an end to it.

You’ve often told us to never give up as there’s a way round just about anything so I think about that when you mention B and yourself enjoy the odd ‘coffe & cake’ which in the right circumstances and premises gives you the pleasure that ‘eating out’ (without the washing up) gives others.
