Eat in or Takeaway…

What did The Golfer do when he noticed I wasn’t feeling the best..

He took me out to lunch at The Cove – a special spot with its green tropical garden plus sea views. Lightly booked that day but because it was very warm we decided to sit ‘inside’ under cover. But look, inside or out the food tastes just as good.

Here’s my King Prawn Salad with crispy Noodles – neither of us remember what The Golfer ate so we’ll just have to go again to refresh his memory 😊

And what was there to do but laugh the day we tried the little coffee shop down the road and it had run out of table space but had room at the outside bar. Now that’s great for those who can clamber up onto high stools – not so for a short legged Catherine having an achy back day. I found a little stool made a great improvised table while The Golfer enjoyed his from up on high

******.
Then just when I thought ‘all was lost’ and I’d never see it again, what did he do but find my little gold heart and chain – down the back of the bed!
Not one for glamour and glitter this was one gift from him I wouldn’t like to lose.

Four ‘treasures’ that go everywhere with me

What would I take…

There are other sentimental items in my life but if we had to leave home in a hurry the charm & chain along with the beautiful pearl ring that did not cost a fortune- (story recounted here) – another ring (found in an op shop) so similar in design that when worn together they look like a matching set and my mothers very thin ‘9ct utility’ wartime wedding ring which I wear in front to hold the two together would be what I’d pick up first.

[This was a fun trivia question at a recent mixed Probus gathering- men v ladies. The answers were surprising….not all ladies opted for jewellery- not all men opted for power tools. Most mentioned photographs.]

  1. I have my mother’s engagement ring, also very thin. I didn’t know, till you told me, it was because of the war.
I do love your photos of the Cove. It looks very tropical. Exotic in fact.
What would I grab? Nothing comes to mind. Except maybe my bank card and a clean pair of knickers. Photos? No. Google has them, even old ones, rephotoed. Jewellery? I’d be burnt to a crisp, crushed or drowned by the time I remembered where I’ve stashed it.

  2. We have an envelope filled with documents and things we deem valuable that we both know to grab. Our daughter and grandchildren have been informed as to the location of this envelope. It’s on the way out the door should we have to make a run for it. I put it together after Hurricane Katrina when the world turned upside down and I realized there was no safe place.

  3. I am glad that the Golfer’s treat worked its magic – and very, very glad that you found your treasure.
    What would I take?
The cats. And I would probably be scratched woefully in the process.

  4. The Cove looks like a beautiful place, situated at a beautiful spot.

Family photos are of most importance to me….they are what I treasure…along with my memories…the good and the bad. The latter is what life is made up of, and that is the reality of life.

  5. I’m so glad you found your precious pretties. I’m hoping I find my earring that I bought in Ireland.
I’d definitely grab my fur babies first. And then my children’s baby photo albums. All else is replaceable

  6. I hope you are feeling better by now. What a sweet grouping of keepsakes. What would I take if I had to leave in a hurry? I’d probably grab a bag with knitting in it. After that, my wedding rings and a necklace I made from my Mother’s diamond. If I could find it I’d take another necklace that belonged to her.

  7. I like the look of those prawns! Great medicine for you.
I don’t even know what I’d take in a disaster, i’m not ovcerly sentimental and it would take me ages to decide, then to get it all together.

  8. A dear friend of mine kept all of her important papers and stuff in an open laundry basket in her basement. (Her car in the garage was on the same level.) She knew she could grab it in case of a disaster! Linda in Kansas

  9. Photos are my go to choice too. The only jewelry I like is on my left hand, a simple gold band and gold band with sapphires from my engagement. As for those high stools, I wonder who in the world invented them. Even if I manage to get up on one I struggle to get down.

  10. There is a certain romance to eating out, or going out to enjoy a beverage. I remember enjoying it immensely, but the last time I did that was about 40 years ago now. Fond memories.
So glad you found your treasures!
Were I to leave suddenly, it would be paperwork I’d grab. I wear my medic alert all the time, so would not have to think about that. I’ve no jewelry to speak of, and my books, which I truly treasure, would be too bulky to bring with me.
