Lemon coconut slice?
What do you think?
After the appointment I’d just had at the hearing centre I certainly needed it…..tell you what…..you can add hearing aids to the list of items that have definitely risen quite steeply in price. Granted my trusty Signia ones, the ones I’ve used for the past 7yrs – (once I accepted I needed them in certain circumstances) – do work just fine, they really needed to be updated. Talk about sticker shock!
So the March Equinox been and gone – another quarter turn of the wheel happened – and Autumn has truly arrived…..days and nights here at home are about equal at the moment
but that loss of light will soon become very apparent. ……
These are the times for Friday 7:29 am Sunrise – 7:20pm Sunset.
Another 9 mins gone!
And while my whinging complaining won’t stop all that happening there is something I do enjoy about this season.
.
Brussel Sprouts — fresh from the farm!
Look at them, planted just up the road from us in the paddocks along the Maroondah Highway at Coldstream, lined up in straight rows as far as the eye can see…… so easy for the picking gangs to harvest them.
I know I’m in the minority who really do enjoy eating them and look forward to adding another vegetable to our plates.
Have to be cooked plainly though – steamed then served with a dab of butter (salt/pepper optional).
No oven or frying pan involved – no weird and wonderful ingredients added – I’ve seen olive oil, honey, soy sauce, lemon juice even Parmesan cheese mentioned. Do those things and I’ll not even look at them never mind eat them!

Yes pplease to the lemon coconut slice! I’ve got some biscuits in the oven, not for me, but I might just try one. The smell is wonderful.
Brussel sprouts. Yes, we eat them but mainly at Xmas. I have a friend who loves them. She pops a steamed sprout in her mouth like a lolly.

I’ll eat them hot or cold….not keen on raw. They’re a bit chewy and taste too much like cabbage that way!

The slice looks very tempting.
You are correct in that you are probably a minority with brussel sprouts. Anything that can added to them to disguise the taste works for me.
It must almost be the time for the the clock to turn back, so that’s extra daylight in the morning.

The slice was very tempting Andrew – and tasted good as well 😊
You’re right about having lighter mornings for a little while but then the ‘darker evenings’ arrive sooner.

that cake definitely looks indulgent. Yes to Brussels sprouts but I do like mine sliced and sautéed with bacon. They make good coleslaw too (whispers) with pomegranate seeds…..

Thanks for the coleslaw tip…..maybe I’ll try it sometime. I saw pomegranates in the green grocers the other day. I’d have to slice the sprouts very fine though

One of the pleasures of having coffee in a bakery!

Yes, I would indeed like that slice with my coffee. A bit of pastry always goes well with coffee or tea. I’m another one who enjoys Brussel Sprouts. My favorite prep is to roast them in the oven with a little olive oil and salt and pepper.

Sorry Jane can’t come at them being roasted. It seems to take the ‘taste’ of the actual sprout away

Hi Cathy, Deb from Deb’s World has written about her hearing aid experience as well! I’m a fan of brussels sprouts but my husband isn’t. The only time I have them now is when my SIL cooks them for Christmas Day. It is still hot and humid up here in Brisbane but the mornings and evenings are certainly getting the autumn chill. Sunrise is later and sunset is earlier. Bring on Autumn and Winter these two seasons are beautiful up here in Qld. x

Hopefully we’ll be able to get back to Bowen again this year to enjoy a pleasant winter

Hi Cathy, I’m putting my hand up as another lover of Brussel Sprouts! Love them! That slice looks delicious and I’m hoping your new hearing aids will prove their worth for you! As a Queenslander having lived through another long hot and humid summer I’m really looking forward to cooler weather. Of course, it doesn’t get as cold here as it does for you there in Victoria. Our winters are mild and comfortable here. Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy – have a great week! xo

Yay for the sprout eaters of the world Min. Our past summer was very humid so we Victorians got a taste of what goes on each year in Queensland. Hopefully The Golfer and I will be back up in Bowen this winter enjoying the warmer days

Hi Cathy, I would love some lemon coconut slice to help ease the pain at the shock of the cost of hearing aids! I hear you well and truly on that score. It’s so interesting be more aware now of who has hearing aids, I’m loving being in such company!

I’ve been in the club for over 7yrs now Deb….it’s one place that never grows old. There are new advances made each year which is unfortunately why the aids cost so much. Mine were over $1000 more than last time – sadly Health insurance pays a pittance towards them

I hear you Cathy! I got some dollars from my health fund but nowhere near enough.
