Slowanuary – isn’t that a wonderful ‘word’
I’ve seen it on various platforms and really feel it’s how this first month of the New Year should be approached
It’s easy for us who are enjoying the quiet days of Summer – this one here in Melbourne has finally warmed up into what we think of as summer. Hot enough on some days to go really slow….maybe full stop a couple of times. Those ‘way up yonder where everything’s icy and the white stuff is falling’ will probably be going slow to make sure they don’t lose their balance 😦
But that’s not what it’s all about….
Originally the idea was geared more for those in the Northern Hemisphere…..SLOWanuary – the warm up month of the year…..
others have taken the idea and by expanding and itemising it have maybe simplified it …..but honestly like all good ideas it can be implemented anywhere and in any way
Some like to start the year off in a manner similar to lining up on the starting line…..ready steady go. That’s not my idea of fun
We’re two weeks into the New Year and it’s obvious to me now from rereading this blog post……that without actually realising it, I’m a Slowanuary aficionado from way back.
I’ve always been an ‘ease your way in slowly’ person……
reading, bathing, eating, sleeping 😊
I’m still having a terrible time trying to comment on some blogs hopefully I’ll be able catch up with you sometime soon

I had a slowing period for 4 weeks away from school-two in December, two in January. This is the week to get back into routine. Monday was Ladies Who Lunch, Tuesday is grocery shopping, Wednesday and Thursday will be storytelling days at Columbia. And Friday? Oh, Friday I may just go into slow-mode.

No wish whatsoever to plunge headlong into the
New Year…..prefer to see what it looks like first…

January is the month said to be Veganuary, World Carnivore month, Dry January and now Slow January.
I’m doing Carnivore month. But I’ll take slow January as well

I love January because it is my month of slow. No work!!! Yay!!! And this January has been our slowest, as we’ve not gone on any travels. The long days have been wonderful.

oh for a slow start here. The house sale stuff really kicked it off with a bang.

Very slow for me and the meme is appropriate. Now, how many days is it to Christmas? I might be ready for it this year.

You are so right. A slow easing into the year is a good thing no matter the weather. I am slow to enter also. Mostly taking my time serves me well. I bet you are the same.

Hi Cathy, I love that word ‘Slowanuary’! I’ve never heard it before but can completely relate to it. It’s an easing yourself into a new year time. A recovering from the festive season time. It’s a very apt kinda word! Thanks so much for linking up with our very first #WWWhimsy of 2025! xo

I don’t like January, here in the UK it’s dreary – always damp. It’s a slow month because I don’t feel like going outside much.

Oh I love the idea of SlowJanuary, Cathy. Too often we rush into the New Year and back onto the self imposed tread mill. SlowJanuary sounds perfect. Happy New Year! #WWWhimsy

That is a good word. For a few days, life was slow enough that I couldn’t find anything worth blogging about, but then the snow came, and I have pictures’ for a few days. Thanks for the visit.
Oh yes! We do have to be careful walking. Yesterday, I came close to taking a picture of the sidewalks along our daily trudges.

I love the idea of a slow steady start to the year, Cathy. I have been full-speed ahead on my fitness goals, but otherwise I have been enjoying a more relaxed exploring of the possibilities around me. #WWWhimsy
