Guthalungra (about half an hour north of Bowen) has a population of about 112 – is predominantly an agricultural area, mostly grazing with some crop production. source

You won’t see cane or mangoes along the roadside but you will see cattle
Not in the numbers like in the Rockhampton area
– aka Australia’s Beef Capital –
just enough to notice they’re there.
Usually ‘humped Brahman in origin used to tropical conditions and very different in look to what is bred down home in Victoria
Difficult to photograph at high speed – usually 100kmh on the open road.
So I laugh when I see some of the shots I’ve captured
(I’m the passenger btw not the driver)
Like……A man on a Mission.
Moving determinedly across the paddock at a rate of knots
Meanwhile just down the road they were playing Follow The Leader
And Lunch is always being Served for this mob – so it’s ’eyes down looking’

There are too many words here to make this a Wordless Wednesday post.
even though not a word was spoken between them and me
What’s it like just up the road from you?

At the moment, chaos. The back road into town is like a river bed in the rainy season, which is when the council have sent in the roadworks team…well, one bulldozer and one leveller. Result? tons of mud thrown willy nilly on the sides of the road, completely fouling up the drainage, so only 4x4s can get by……

So I take it you use a different road? Or use a 4wheel drive?

4×4……the other road was just as bad when we first arrived!

Think I’m going to have to ask Mr G about this place – I thought you lived much further south than that

We are roughly 2 hours south of Erie. Less time if the traffic is light!

I like the photo of a steer on a mission. I’m guessing it’s a steer.
Just up the road from me? depends how far up the road 🙂

Cattle moving like this can mean one of three things, an earthquake, food and you can guess the last one.

Up the road from me: Farms – fields with corn and soybeans, the Platte River with some rolling prairie and a few old red barns.

Sounds like you’re a real rural country girl…..and I’m going to be asking Mr G. a little about the Platte river.

The Platte River is a wide but not often very deep braided river. It’s origin is in the Rocky Mountains and it flows across the state of Nebraska. Every March in central Nebraska, it is the gathering point for a magnificent gathering of Sandhill Cranes as they migrate south to north. White settlers followed the Platte River across the straight into the western part of the US.

I am a rural girl at heart. 😊 Although I live in the Lincoln, the second largest city in our state, population 292, 000 by the 2020 census.
