This ‘quest’ to use up those left overs has changed course. Still in the baby dept, just altered focus a fraction.
After having discovered found – who am I kidding… remembered there was another lot of white acrylic outside in a large container I put the newborn sets to one side.
They were mainly half + balls from when I used to make all white sets for a different charity and I knew this ‘find’ could be paired with other (brighter) half balls of similar weight 8ply acrylic to make cardigans. It also gave me a chance to highlight different ways of doing the colour change.
It looks like I’ve been going hell for leather over the past couple of weeks – not so. Several warm (really hot) days with nothing planned meant plain knitting of small things happened faster than patterned (where you have to think about it).
Luckily our suburb didn’t cop the damage so much as other parts of Victoria did after a storm went through on one of those days.
I’ve been able to add four to the charity box, the same size as before but because it was a slightly different weight it knit up quickly also making a slightly larger garment.
I’ll get back to the baby sets soon but really must continue and finish something begun last November
Trouble is, (and this will probably sound daft) knitting something for a 4yr old to wear during the winter is almost like wishing the summer season away. The front and one sleeve are done so it’s half finished- just the other half to go.
But as it’s such a lovely day while I’m writing this – and there’s a new library book sitting there waiting to be read – Our souls at night…..”This is a love story. A story about growing old with grace” …..maybe tea, bickies and a book are the way to go instead

I vote go for the book.. I just spent 2 lovely hours reading and would still be reading but the man feels Left Home Alone when I read, although now he is staring at a car show and i sit type here without my book. as soon as I click publish, i will be back to my book. have fun LOVE the little sweaters with two colors…

I used a cookbook stand that held open the book. Then I could read and knit. And take an occasional glance at the telly, too.

We’re an inventive lots aren’t we Joanne. The one I used was made from hard plastic – which unfortunately got broken last year. I have another but can’t get it to sit on the arm of my chair. Think I’m going to have to go charity shopping

When I looked at those little cardis all I could think of was the ways in which a little person will be warm this winter. Lovely.

It definitely was a good idea Sammie. No storm today but after a couple of real scorchers we now have a very large bushfire on the Western Highway cutting the road between Ballarat and Ararat.

I think the film with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford is based upon this book. I enjoyed watching it.

You can’t beat a relaxing afternoon with a good book, Cathy! I hear you about the weather. It would be too hot and humid to knit in Qld at the moment but I haven’t given up on a project for winter. #wwwhimsy

Those cardigans are so cute and bring back so many memories of when I used to knit for my little one. I always thought a child wearing a hand knotted jumper showed that they were loved.

Tea and biscuits with a book sounds like the way to go. The little cardigans are darling. Some Mom or Grandmother is going to appreciate having them.

There’s something about a cup of tea that’s comforting Jane – add in something sweet and life is really good.
It’s win win where the woolies are concerned- I really enjoy making them, charities (mothers babies families by default) enjoy receiving them. ‘Sadly’ there’s always a need for them.
