Friday morning coffee at the Yacht Club

Two o/seas news items during the week – one an achievement’ the other a disappointment – had me churning thoughts around in my mind
- Why do it
- Why is it considered important- necessary even
- Is it of benefit to any country who does it
- Surely all the money spent could be better used elsewhere
- Only four countries have achieved it
- Lives have been lost trying to do it
I have many more questions
I’d be grateful if anyone is able to answer any of the ones above
and convince me it’s all been money well spent
Monday Musings – a time to think and ponder
Still Waters 
I know not. And have often wondered the same things myself. I would MUCH prefer that the money and the dedication were spent on keeping our own planet habitable.

That’s a fairly basic but sound argument, make our own planet better before we go off perhaps interfering with other planets.

Because they can. Sadly, they don’t think about the benefit of spending money where it’s needed but then they can’t show the world how clever they are.

I used to think that but then I heard of the many inventions that have come about because of space travel.
When Christopher Columbus set sail did people question the voyage?
Or the earliest people who left Africa to Europe and beyond.
It’s our human nature to explore, travel..dare I say go on holiday.
Is it better for one person to travel that in the future may benefit many, or for everyone to stay put and gain nothing in the future.
I plant trees, not for me but for the future.. I could instead buy ice creams for immediate consumption.

While I personally don’t think it is money well spent, my 16 year old granddaughter would totally disagree. She is fascinated with space exploration and intends to learn as much as she can so that she can work in space research. I am amazed at her passion, but it is real.
