There were surprises when we discovered we had company on Saturday morning….a couple of ships, slightly larger than the usual yachts, tinnies and fishing boats seen in these waters.
Then the penny dropped – or rather – we remembered what we’d seen on the local news and why there were so many military vehicles on the Bruce Highway plus personnel in town.
The international exercise – Talisman Sabre – was about to start!

It would also explain the ship I’d seen earlier in the week when I walked Kings Beach (which backs onto Rose Bay).
For the next week or so it’s out of bounds because this is the one they ‘storm’ from the larger ship using their landing craft – hopefully someone warned them about ‘not getting their feet wet’😊

Are the foreign forces allowed off ships when the ships are moored? That is did you see any foreign in uniform or not in town?

Yes, the troops are allowed in town. It’s hard to tell who’s who from a distance- they all tend to wear those green coloured camouflage uniforms so you’re have to be up close and personal to see any country id. The Golfer was chatting to some in the library and there were some in the fish and chip shop (not sure what the Americans thought of that but they were tucking in)

Never a dull moment I guess. All those exercises must be necessary but they do make me uncomfortable.

Very sobering – 30,000 personnel from 12 different nations playing ‘war games’ across 3 Australian states and 1 territory. You do wonder what they’ll gain – we’ll never know.
