Changing rooms….

I’ve done very little actual clothes shopping over the recent years that needed ‘trying on’ so imagine my surprise last week at being shown to a unisex change room large enough to hold a dance in.
‘There’s only me’ I said.
‘They’re all like this’ the assistant said.

Certainly looked like a ‘cradle to the grave’ family sized one.
With grab (support) rails on the walls plus plenty of space to manoeuvre a wheel chair…. or pram/pusher and floor space for children to play/wait/run around in…it seems one size fits all these days
Then of course there was the dreaded all seeing- all knowing three sided corner mirror, guaranteed to put you down in the dumps before you’ve even shut the door.
And gone are the days of quick decisions- three hooks on the wall – don’t you love it when traders give you choices – yes, no and maybe. Maybe what….different colour- lose a little weight – I’ll think about it while I’m waiting in line to pay?

Question of the week!
Are you as confused as I am
trying to work out where I was standing to take the mirror shot 😊😊.
(flowers look strange but are covering a very visible- ghastly looking cold sore
that I’d rather you didn’t see…I wore a mask in the store..but even so)

And (sorry fellas, this is for the ladies) a handy wall chart to peruse while you’re standing there half naked wondering ‘why doesn’t this fit properly’

I

Should be back on Monday – hopefully will see you then!

  1. Ohhhh, those down under changing rooms! I remember my last ‘show’ 15 years ago. The rooms weren’t so large but those ‘all-around’ mirrors, oh horror. I tried on a long dress and a swimsuit. The larger than life sight of my backside sent me running, without buying.
Thank goodness it’s still just three hooks and one long mirror here. You might have trouble finding a hook for your clothes but the reflection in that one mirror is so much kinder and turning this way and that you only get a glimpse of the back part

    1. Some of the big stores are trying to entice shoppers back and (so I was told) needed to update some of their facilities. This one has had the corner mirror thingy for as long as I can remember but those change rooms used to be ‘no room to swing a cat’ size.

  2. I’ve seen those hooks somewhere. Target? It looks like an excellent change room to me.
The bra sizing is interesting and for once I have no knowledge at all. Bust spilling over or bulging under the cup? I am not sure the latter is desirable but a bit of spill over at the top seems popular in northern England, well until a woman is 75 or so.

  3. F avoids those places like they have a kind of plague. These days she has been reverting to youth and wearing a version of ‘hand-me-downs’ – only these ones get picked up at clothes swaps or purchased for a pittance at charity shops (to which they are returned if they don’t fit when tried on at home). I have no idea where her aversion to shopping came from but it seems to be intensifying as she ages. xxx Mr T

    1. The trouble was Tigger, what I was looking for are always ‘well worn’ by the time they arrive in charity shops. So in this case new it was.

    1. Shops – large and small- are feeling the effects of customers going online so (seemingly, from what I was told) this was one way of enticing families and the old back again. No idea if it’s working, I was there really early so not too many people around

  4. I have not bought any clothing for 5 years, i wear black or navy tshirts of which i have 10 or 12 and leggins, all bought without trying on at Walmart. I have never seen a dressing room this big. but I have never shopped in a nice store, by nice I mean expensive. the penny;s stores had one large for wheel chairs but not this big. when I retired in 2006 I quit buying REAL clothes. I never go anywhere so no need for REAL clothing. lol

    1. I think they are placed there to reassure the customer they were doing the right thing by buying from a chain store and not a specialist underwear shop where you could be fitted- and then sold the same item at inflated price😊

  5. I have not been in a changing room in probably 10 years, and it was difficult then. The fitting woman was harried, and so was I and we resolved little.

  6. I can’t remember the last time I was in a changing room…it’s been many, many years.

For a long time now, online is how I’ve been purchasing clothes, shoes…and most other items, except for grocery shopping. I reckon I really have more than enough clothes to last me out. Not being a social creature these days helps. 🙂

  7. Wow, that is some dressing room as we call them in the states. The stores here don’t have many customers. Maybe the bigger changing rooms are one way to attract shoppers, especially women with families.

  8. I LOVE this change room. Not so long ago we had a lady with dementia come in to the store I work in. The lady was too confused to stand for trying things on and the change room is so small we couldn’t get a chair in there so we had to put a chair in the store room for her. It was dreadful.
