I have….

been going through one of my ‘want to be alone’ times since we came home. It might be Spring and although some days have been quite pleasant there’s been an awful lot that haven’t so basically Warm Weather Withdrawal Symptoms are what I’ve been suffering from. ‘The Back’ playing up hasn’t helped matters so it’s been easier just to retire (with a book) to my own little world for a short time

A session in the warm water therapy pool always helps….just have to remind myself to check the pool availability chart. I didn’t realise the Fathers and Babes class was weekly so twice I’ve turned up and half the area has been blocked off. Not so bad when there’s only a few others in the water but things got a little tense as more arrived and ‘room to move’ became limited

Then there was the nuisance factor in coming home to this…..courtesy of a very windy (like gale force we were told) storm – one demolished blind. Admittedly it did already have a small tear and was to changed anyway but what a way to go. One quick trip to ‘the big green shed’ aka Bunnings and we were back to the way we were

Nice new one in place now

Being ‘topped and tailed’ has helped – Cutting of the hair and toe nails happened 😊.
The hairdresser and podiatrist appointments were already in the diary but not until a week after we got home…..which was good really because it gave me a chance to work some of my misery out of my system before getting the boost I needed.

Then there was a bit of a laugh when I finally got the urge to go grocery shopping. Prices seemed to have soared again but this one stopped me in my tracks…..until it dawned on me the price was for the 30 eggs above and not the dozen below 🤭

By Friday emotions seemed to have come good and I ended up not canceling a planned lunch – one where I’d be surrounded by oodles of women – because the lunch was with other View Club members and that is an organisation solely for women. I knew when I sat down, each person in the room was comfortable with the other ‘ladies’ at their table and via The Smith Family there was a common interest and solution to helping some disadvantaged Australian children cope with problems of education.  Voice, Interest Education of Women.

After lunch speaker had us amused and interested in her recollections of a trip to Antartica – she spoke about Shackleton’s expedition and how they (well some of them) finally ended up South Georgia and how she herself ended up visiting there – on a cruise ship…..chosen because it was on the itinerary.

I’m now back in the business of life again, trying to think positively…..yes it’s not summer yet but it’s not far off – the Spring equinox has arrived, the clocks change soon, the temperature will rise (we will then complain it’s too hot😊) and …..’The Back’ doesn’t feel quite so uncomfortable at the moment.

How about you- how do you cope with the changing seasons ?

  1. Good to know you have shaken off the lows for now – still a few days of good books isn’t always a bad thing. I think I need to make a trip to the big green shed for one of this blinds – rain here the last 2 days has been horizontal and right up to the tops of the doors on the verandah.

    1. We’re having a nice fall. No freezing nights forecast till Oct. 4 (miracle if it’s true) and grain harvesting is going on all around us. I’ve grown to love all the seasons but it’s still the warm-but-not-TOO-warm days I love the best. Signed, Goldilocks.

    2. You’ll have lots of red and gold colour coming up soon with leaves dropping – Wish Spring would show her colour – some deciduous trees are starting to green up but it’s like two steps forward and one backwards at the moment.

  2. I’m glad you have shaken the “lows” for the time being. I imagine a sore back didn’t help anything. It’s good to get out with other women as I remind my introverted self. I hope your gentle Spring arrives and stays for good.

    1. Contrary to how many of my ‘friends’ feel I need the ‘fellowship’ that women provide for each other. It’s a different atmosphere to the paid employment situation where competition (real or perceived) is the name of the game

  3. I’d like to say welcome home, but it doesn’t seem like you are too pleased to be home. Yes, I’ll soon be complaining about the heat, and I haven’t quite finished complaining about the cold.

    1. I’m definitely pleased to be home Andrew…. I like the comfort of my own bed too much plus a chair that suits my body (and its needs).
The weather has a terrible habit of letting me down that’s all

  4. It has certainly been a cold, wet, windy winter. As I write it’s bucketing down and chilly after a few warm sunny days. Spring in Victoria! Must say I prefer to be too cool than too warm.

Sore backs make everything so much worse. I am glad the water therapy is helping and the back is behaving.

  5. I used to “rush” the seasons… but with age comes a fragment of wisdom. (maybe? haha!) I no longer wish for the next season, rather I find something to enjoy in the day I am in. Easy? Not always, but it is helpful. I hope your back continues to improve! XO

    1. I might have been the oldest child in my family but I definitely was not the most patient😊. Always wanted things to finish so I could get to the next bit.
I’m still that way…..only thing I don’t want to finish are the warm days of summer. I really should take your advice onboard

  6. I love the change of seasons. I like the warm breeze of spring after winter, i like the cool nights after summer, I like the cold weather when comfort food makes so much sense. I don’t like much about summer.

    1. lol Good job we aren’t all the same Kylie – my list is a little bit different to yours ……summer would be top of my list, then comes warm breezes with some cool nights thrown in for luck😊. I’m just not into winter!

  7. Always enjoy visiting your site. Here, in my neck of the woods, the wood stove has been cleaned, chimney swept and a call in to our local wood guy for a couple of crates of seasoned wood. Our recent derecho downed a big portion of our driveway maple tree. That’s been cut up and is drying near our alley for the next heating season, or the next, depending on our variable climate. Long, tall weeds are easy picking before they seed. The shorter ones will have to wait for later.
