🧶 Just because…..

Just because the ‘picture in the book’ suggests it’s a girly knit most knitters know it doesn’t have to be.
It’s often the actual knitting stitches plus embellishments that dictate how a garment is seen and there wouldn’t be many ‘home knitters’ who haven’t changed things around to suit

Here’s my first finish of the year – using as a base the stitch number plus measurements of what is presented as a cardigan for a girl but with a little boy in mind substituted the lacy stitch with stocking stitch/ 1×1 knit/purl every 4th row – mind you that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t suit a little girl

Over the years I’ve had a lot of fun with that basic chunky square style.
Remember the baby sets made using up oddments early 2023

And of course the picture knits that appear now and again when I want to make something different

Not forgetting the stripey versions – another way to use up oddments

Being such an easy style to knit you never know what I’ll come up with next

It’s the same with books – just because somebody says….. I’m lending you this book which you really must read – ‘it is riveting’….that doesn’t mean you will feel the same way

I tried, I really did…..but unfortunately found reading the question/answer style a little annoying.
Yes it was a written record of an interview (questions/answers obviously) but the answers were a little quite long winded at times so on reflection think perhaps I might have enjoyed the audio version much more.
It wouldn’t be like ‘reading a book’ where you have to listen and concentrate to absorb the storyline (and sometimes grimace at the narrator’s voice).
I feel it would be like taking part in a conversation- a silent part – listening to the other people speak, nodding and smiling as the words are flowing.

I’ll share this later on Kat’s featured post  Unraveled Wednesday

Oh, and what have you been making recently……and how do you cope when a ‘looking forward to reading’ book doesn’t thrill you?

  1. I love all those baby sweaters! (and absolutely, just because a garment is displayed for a girl, does not mean it can’t work for a boy and vise versa!)

  2. I am knitting a baby blanket that has turned out a bit bigger than I anticipated! I shall then knit a jacket for the same baby then back to sock. In between I have a scarf on my RHL.

I get very disappointed when a much anticipated book doesn’t live up to expectations. Sometimes I will give it another go with better results – I guess it depends on our mindset at the time.

  3. I llike all those styles, they’re lovely, but the stst with k1 p1 every 4th row is lovely too. Those 4th rows would break up the knitting too so it seems to go faster.

I’m crocheting granny squares. Why? I don’t know. I’ve got wool but no enthusiasm this winter

  4. love the blue/yellow oddments cardy. More clothes should be like that. I wish I could say I’ve read anything lately but I struggle to read all the blog posts in my follow list. I did find (it wasn’t lost and is hard to miss) a book barn in an old railway goods shed at Chertsey (Canterbury NZ) – which has to be the biggest second hand book shop I have ever seen. Half of it is stacked to the rafters with banana boxes of books and the other half is a random arrangement of mixed origin shelving – laid out like a maze I suspect to trap unwary idlers. There are another 6 or 8 40 foot containers outside which I am reliably advised are also full. I couldn’t buy anything. I was just a bit overwhelmed by looking. Maybe the next visit.

  5. All of those little cardigans are darling. There is something so sweet about woolens for the wee ones. You have had a lot of fun with that pattern. As for a book that doesn’t thrill, I set it aside and go onto another. I’m close to a library and there are so many books in the world. I don’t like to read interviews either. Listening to them on podcasts or radio is much more interesting unless the interviewer isn’t very skilled. Then of course, I go on to something else. Maybe I just have a short attention span.
