Don’t you just love the display of colours on these stands.
All laid out in numerical order so a list in your hand would be a good idea.
I’d gone looking for an ‘easy to see colour’ so wasn’t bothered by the numbers. But let’s just say it was good job that what I was looking for wasn’t on the bottom ground floor section. I’d have been looking for someone to pick it out/pick it up for me. It was a long way down with shade numbers not exactly visible! Spotlight must think embroiderers are all young and nimble

Does anyone remember when the threads were hooked onto a prong – and if you took the wrong one off having a devil of a job getting it back on the prong all nice and neatly.
Plus often some would be put back in the wrong spot and as sure as fate you’d want the correct one behind them and get left with all the others in your hand as well. No wonder there’d be so many lying on the shelf below – or even on the floor.

I’m plodding on with the baby sampler – have reached the ‘big bass drum’
(which is worked in white)
That’s when my ‘what if’ fear rose its head…..what if I run out….
so I decided maybe I should get some new skeins instead of using what I had on hand….
and new will definitely look cleaner and fresher
Hence me being in Spotlight- now I know it’s been several (many would be a better word) years since I’ve bought any floss but I don’t remember there being more than one white.
I couldn’t tell the difference between these two, both looked the same but I played safe and brought a couple of (known) Blanc home with me. Then went down several rabbit holes trying to discover if there was a difference and what it was.
What’s the difference between BLANC and B5200?
This article described it perfectly- HERE
A bit like white yarn and white paint…..not all whites are the same……interesting read.

Kat has a weekly featured post – Unraveled Wednesday……where the talk is all about craft, books and life in general.
You can find out what others are up to HERE.
There’s been no knitting (again) this week but the November b/club book arrived….can’t remember if I’ve ever read anything by this author. This one sounds interesting- we shall see
The Giver of Stars – Jo Jo Moyes
Oh, and did you know that if you rearrange LOFTPRAM you will get PLATFORM?
Neither did I until the other day.
Afternoon quiz shows are so enlightening 😊

How I love that array of colours. I have been caught on white thread before. I ran out partly through a project and bought some more. They were different whites and the results swore at me until I unpicked the first lot (a white I couldn’t find) and replaced it.

We certainly don’t like finding out the hard way do we EC.

What a fun rabbit hole is embroidery floss and thank you for that link about whites! Fascinating!
I will be interested in hearing your thoughts on the Jojo Moyes book!
I am knitting waiting results to start coming in! (and I am always so happy to have you join us!)

That is such a robust display of embroidery floss! None of my local craft stores have that much variety anymore.

Spotlight is a very large chain Jana, been around since small beginnings in 1970s now has enormous stores so has big buying power. They do have lots of ‘stuff’ – haberdashery, manchester, kitchen ware as well as other stuff I can’t remember 😊.

Just another issue we face as we age. Mine is trying to read supermarket shelf prices on lower shelves.

we used to have a little shop with threads. We were given a chart and chose colours by their numbers. And IF the shop had the colour you wanted you were damn lucky. The threads got so expensive I gave up embroidery. But I do have a wee box with certain colours. I usually embroider free style so any colour goes. My last big picture was home sweet home, following a chart.
Anything by JoJo Moyes is certain to be good reading

Have just begun reading this book, so far so good. It’s easy reading. Thanks for the recommendation of her as an author

That’s a bit odd about the white, but since black can be different shades, it seems that white can be too.

lol AC – not everything in life is black or white…..sometimes there are shades of grey

All white thread is so not the same! When I worked in the knitting and stitching shop I really enjoyed restocking the hanging stands.

I have some old Anchor and Semco white here and they look very different to the DMC but wasn’t aware that DMC sold ‘whites’ with a different hue
How lucky you were to work surrounded by all that loveliness. I’m wondering if you had a handy gadget to help get those skeins on the hangers evenly.

Interesting about the whites – thanks for the link. The shops I go to don’t have the array of floss that you show in your picture – that is gorgeous!

Big store so it has big displays of everything you think you need- and much more of what you didn’t even realise you needed😊
The bright store lighting had made the colours glow but it didn’t look that way in the photo

there are so many of each colour. With only slight variations that I wonder once it’s all done. Wouldn’t it make little difference.
like green grass, as long as you use the one type of green it really doesn’t matter if it’s slightly too dark or slightly to light.
i guess some people are so fussy the have to have the exact right shade of green.
i try to not go into spotlight. It’s always a bad bad thing to do lol

I’m with you on the ‘does it matter’ but obviously for some it does.
Im also with you on ‘hold on to your wallet when you walk through the door’. It seems to have a mind of its own!

I’m not a crafter but I had a colour matching job long ago. There are a lot of whites and even more buffs plus a lot of greys.
I like the softness of Blanc compared to the 5200, which I would call bright white

It’s funny how once you see it you don’t forget it. The difference is apparent almost immediately..
There might be a blog post in that admission Kylie. Tell us about your colourful world that was

Look at all that beautiful color. Interesting article about the whites. I have so much floss from back in the day but more than once I’ve had to go pick up skein of some color I really wanted.

I was in two minds about trying to use what I had but am glad I changed my mind and made the purchase. I was strong and only came home with the white…..it’s so easy to ‘lose your way’ in a place like Spotlight
