There’s a solution for everything!

Well it’s certainly been a strange week in my house
After getting over the ‘shock’ of what I saw in the mirror
and once I was able to keep awake and not keep nodding off
(I’m not sure what the aneasthetist put in the sedation but I don’t remember a thing)
I began to wonder how I could fill in my days.

As well as the obvious No Driving the ‘strict’ post op instructions from the specialist had included:
No vacuuming!
No forward hairwashing – meaning not to do it in the shower but able to if the head is hanging backwards and someone else does it for you!
No rubbing your eyes!
No creams near the eye – preferably not on the face at all!
No swimming!
No gardening!
No bushwalking!
No going to the gym!

I could read, watch tv and use the computer for short period of times
‘now and again’
So that didn’t leave much – ‘cept for sitting about doing nothing lol
As it was it turned out to be so bright and unbearably hot on the deck
I stayed inside for the whole week 😦
And what I ended up doing was what else but knitting lol

Look at what I came up with
A stash busting boat necked jumper/sweater
sized for an 18 month old
Mostly plain stocking stitch with an easy to follow graph for a ‘Big Ted’.
So easy on the eyes (sorry) I could do most of it with them closed 🙂 🙂

Had my one week check today.
I mentioned the fact that I needed my glasses to see things clearly out of my left eye – leaving them off made it tired but putting them on meant my right eye (now the ‘good’ eye wit no problems) was not happy.

You’d never guess what his suggestion was?
Yes, thats right – he sat there with a very straight face and said, as tho it was the most obvious thing to anyone – ‘pop into the opticians and ask them to take the lens out of the right side’ then wear them and you will have the benefit of two eyes that are in tune with each other.

Don’t you just hate these people who have all the answers lol  I’m sitting here feeling a bit gormless wearing a one eyed pair of spectacles thinking – Roll on March 20th’ then all these hassles (hopefully) will be a thing of the past lol

So how did your week go?
What problems did you have to solve?

First Impressions

I thought somebody had ‘cleaned’ my right eye –
everything was so bright and crystal clear

Then I wondered where all the wrinkles had come from

And then how come there was all that grey in my hair

I was sure they weren’t there on Wednesday when I went into theatre!

So far so good 🙂 🙂

I will see clearly soon!

Well the first op is tomorrow in the afternoon so I’ll  be off for a few days.
The second will be in a months time
Specialist said the first eye needs to heal before ‘we’ attempt the other one.
I’m sure he knows best
I just want to know when I’ll be able to drive again 😦

I’m going to lighten things up a bit now
So here’s a few ‘little’ jokes that came to me via the Inbox

Children and their special way of looking at things

TEACHER: Why are you late?

STUDENT: Class started before I got here.

————————————————————

TEACHER: Harold , what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?

HAROLD: A teacher?

—————————————————————————-

TEACHER: Clyde, your composition on ‘My Dog’ is exactly the same as your brother’s. Did you copy his?

CLYDE : No, sir. It’s the same dog

———————————————————————-

TEACHER: Now, Simon , tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating?

SIMON: No sir, I don’t have to, my Mom is a good cook.

——————————————————————-

TEACHER: Glen, why do you always get so dirty?

GLEN: Well, I’m a lot closer to the ground than you are

—————————————————————–

TEACHER: Winnie , name one important thing we have today that we didn’t have ten years ago.

WINNIE: Me!

————————————————————

TEACHER: Millie , give me a sentence starting with ‘ I. ‘

MILLIE: I is.

TEACHER: No, Millie ….. Always say, ‘I am.’

MILLIE: All right… ‘I am the ninth letter of the alphabet.’

And wait there’s more lol

Thanks for all the comments about my recent handiwork with the knitting needles
I have more on the go – bright colours this time
So will show when things settle down and I get back in the swing of it.

And wait – there’s more

Decided not to read yesterday but got the needles clicking in overdrive
Finished it late last night and thought maybe you’d like to see the end result
(see previous post)
One boyish cream coloured cabled sleeveless pullover
reminiscent of cricket/tennis pullovers worn by countless men over the years.

Somehow I don’t think the little one who will wear this
will be playing those games yet
It’s sized for a 6 – 9 month old and is just 9 ins long!!

It was a fun way to keep my brain active

Its all in the mind

After expending all my energy at the pool and the gym last week
I’ve been lying low this week – for no reason what so ever
Just feeling a bit down and out of sorts
There were pleasant mornings spent on the deck
or pottering very quietly in a very dismal parched looking garden
A few weeds found their way into the bin
Followed very closely by the now very dead heads of all the Agapanthus

Once it warmed up I moved into the cool of the house
I profess to enjoying the heat but in actuallity
I sag a bit these days when it gets near to 30c/86f 😦

So to keep myself busy I’ve been clicking away with the needles
determined to move more of that yarn stash in the garage
I’ve mentioned KOGO a few times
and thats where these very simple baby woollens are destined to go

So so easy to knit, the sleeveless ones (above)
are crafted by joining the two fronts and knitting the back down from there

1 Baby cardigans
1 baby jackets

3 jacket over the shoulder

So inspired by Jenny who writes at My Life In Flip Flops and this old cable pattern, utilising the same over the shoulder principle I started to work on an idea I had in my mind
3

Pen – Paper – Lots of scribbled notes – Lots and Lots of counting later
This is the result
So far – so good

2 cable
3 cable

Just a few more cables, followed by the ribbing and the back is finished
Neck comes next – then I’ll join the sides
Wanting something with a boyish look I originally thought of a vneck
but changed to the buttoned front opening instead
Should be finished by the end of the week

Then it is on to some other ideas I have for a load of bright coloured wool
Boat Necks and Fair Isle (another love of mine) will feature prominently 🙂

I tell you – once I have an idea in mind there’s no stoppping me
The Golfer wonders why it doesn’t happen where household duties are concerned
Silly man – his mind obviously works differently to mine 😦

How does your mind work?
Do you always follow the instructions as written
or do you find a need to change them now and again?

Now to start the year proper

Well Australia Day has been and gone, lots of little kids have begun the school year and other bigger ones will be on their way this week onwards
Sunrise and sunset times are gradually changing
SR 6.35 yesterday 6.36 today
SS 8.33 yesterday 8.32 today
So that means the year has now begun proper! 🙂

And ‘our big girl’ has had her birthday
Yes, another of my brood has turned the magic half century.

Our big girl all grown up So how does that make me feel?
Pleased in a way that they have managed to get this far with out any major catastophies – apart from failed relationships
Sad that they had to experience those but glad that they both have now settled into a more stable way of life

My ‘big girl’ is rather similar to her MumMe and J 1963

(Or the way she used to be)
In that she likes a glass of bubbly now and again
NO I don’t look like that now but this photo does bring back memories
Lets just say a good time was had by all lol Hey Blondie

She also shares another liking with a different family member
This might give you a hintJ and the chocolate cake

Do you remember my Aunty Pam
whom I wrote about quite frequently over the years
Seen here with J on a couple of occasions
