My initial reaction to a gift I was given late last year
…..”Mum ordered this online – it’s described as Pale Marigold but isn’t exactly what she thought it would be, she thinks it’s too bright . She knows you knit for charity and you’ll welcome it..
(‘Mum’ is a longtime friend who moved to another suburb
daughter lives locally)
~ ~ ~ ~
By the time I took this photo back in early March (for a post I had in mind but never got round to) I’d had a rethink – yes, it’s a bit bright – not quite orange..not quite yellow…youngsters like bright, I’d rephrased my thoughts to something like – Never look a gift horse In the mouth – because I knew it would be welcome wherever it went and by whoever wore it.
So another tried and true pattern had come out of the pile. Styled for a little girl, with a lace panel on the front and sleeves but easily adapted for a boy by leaving them off.
Then I got sidetracked and this was put to one side – it’s only just recently I’ve been able to say that from the 300gms I’d been gifted I managed to produce both a jumper/sweater and cardigan (similar sizing) adding the same lacy design to both of them
With a mind going round in circles recently, I’ve begun to take slow walks again.
The piles of recently fallen leaves at the local park reminded me that nothing (or very little) lasts forever and to enjoy life in whatever way you can.
Those thoughts plus the addition of some beautiful sunny days helped chase the blues away
So what if I had to drive to a place that was within walking distance – those extra 500m downhill one way (then uphill coming back – with no conveniently placed roadside benches,) would have had me exhausted.
It’s what happens there that makes the difference 😊
And the book I began – In a Strange Room – well unlike the knitting, I didn’t return and finish it…..it’s sitting on the shelf waiting for me to pick it up – sometime.
It’s Wednesday again
the first Wednesday in a (another) new month
This time it’s the first Wednesday in May 2023.
So I’m sharing today’s post at Denyse’s weekly link up called Wednesday’s Words & Pics . Why don’t you pop over and see who’s there this week
( Does anyone know where April went?)

Love that marigold colour for some wee pals – it’s so bright and cheerful! A perfect match for the message of staying positive.

I quite like that color as well…some patent will delight in putting it on a child. And the lace helps.

Not pale but definitely happy, cheerful marigold. Seeing that wool knitted up just made me want to smile.

I can visualize the little girl who spots those sweaters and makes a beeline. How I hope they are in her size.
I relate to your want of resting places. I must walk a great distance to my room from anywhere. I’m not complaining; it’s good for me. On the other hand, how I wish for a better resting place than leaning against a wall.

I love the colour Cathy and perfect to wear with the Autumnal Colours of Nature. Love a lace panel. I can see a little girl wearing that playing in the Autumn leaves. #WWandP

That’s a very pretty colour Cathy, and aren’t you clever creating such lovely gifts for some lucky child. The autumn leaves are beautiful and I love kicking up the piles just for the sheer fun of doing it 🙂

I love your knitting Cathy. When my children were little I loved knitting for them. I always said that it showed that somebody lived them, if a little one was wearing a home knitted jumper. I love both the pattern and the colour. I’m sure any little girl would love it.

I love the vibrancy of that yarn. Well done to get two garments out of the yarn. We drive to where we walk in order to have a surface free of things to trip over. I feel silly each time, but we are safe there.

Hi Cathy
I have been enjoying reading your blog entries for a little while now.
I tried adding a comment to today’s post, but I couldn’t get it to work so here I am. [Fingers crossed that with all this modern-day technology this will get to you somehow!]
My name is Jenny. I live in WA – on the edge of the wheatbelt-so a little bit rural but still close to the city if need be.
I loved reading all about your knitting projects, these latest completed garments will put a smile on someone’s little face for sure – that colour is so pretty.
Look forward to reading your next post.
Have a good day. Kind regards Jenny

CRUNCHING through Autumn leaves is the best! We are now living in an area with more decidous trees and after being ‘coastal residents’ for 8 years I am enjoying the change of seasons. I hope this week coming is a cheerier on. I thank you for your insights and kind words for me as I have my hiccups…my wise GP told me I need to speak to myself as if to a kind friend. She is right!! I’m a bit late to commenting this week…oops. Thank you so much for joining in Wednesday’s Words and Pics. I hope you are here again soon. Denyse.

It is a great colour for autumn, right in the autumn leaves range. We suspect we know how you feel. Mr T is slower up the stairs and F isn’t going the speed or distance she used to. It’s the time in life to pause and enjoy the flowers (leaves, sparkles on water, birdsong…..).
