Take Me Home – Phil Coulter 1983
I sit here thinking
As the sun is sinking
Over the mountain
And the dry, dusty ground
As the night is falling
I start recalling
The nights
In my own town
I see the faces
In familiar places
I hear the music
That they played way back then
My heart rejoices
As I hear the voices
Calling me
Home again
Home
Oh take me home
Home to the people
I left behind
Home to the love
I know I’ll find
Oooh take me home
As the sky is burning
My mind is turning
To the cold winter evenings
By my own fire side
So far away now
But any day now
I’ll sail
On the morning tide
Home
Oh take me home
Home to the people
I left behind
Home to the love
I know I’ll find
Oooh take me home
Take me home
Far across the sea
Home is where I long to be
Home
(Da da da da)
Oh take me home
(Da da da da)
Home to the people
(Da da da da da)
I left behind
(Da da da)
Home to the love
(Da da da da)
I know I’ll find
(Da da da da)
Oooh take me home
Whether the absence from home is literal or metaphoric this song hits the spot.

Anything’s better than that Andrew. This is full of soft but powerful emotions and the voices do it proud

Glad you enjoyed it Caro….it’s a particular favourite of mine. Get a bit teary every time I hear it. I can imagine every homesick migrant singing it

The words certainly bring to life the feelings many homesick migrants felt at times (especially Irish ones) hopefully you were able to listen to it as well
Where is Okieland?

Going home in May. Just a visit. Kind of sad Mr T will never get to live the NZ life.

Lovely, poetic, heartfelt words, they are.
I must add, however, I do love John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Road”. I loved John Denver songs, and his singing. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to see him live in concert (I also got to meet him, which was a thrill). He was a tremendous performer. It was a most memorable night in many way. The evening was one of the best I ever shared with my late brother who was a huge Denver fan.
Words can transport us to heights and depths, and everywhere else in between….

I am home and still it makes you teary.
I best not listen to this while I’m away or I’ll cry an ocean.
Beautiful song
