My wish for you….

Christmas carols/songs come in all shapes and sizes – sung by huge choirs down to individual performers, they can be found in all forms on the web

One of my particular favourites ’Angels from the realms of glory ’ may not be yours, that’s fine we don’t all like the same, it’d be a funny old world if we did. It’s often confused with ’Angels we have heard on high’, ….both similarly named and both sung to the same/similar french originating tune https://hymnary.org/tune/gloria_french

but I must just tell you that which ever one I’m singing, either in a choir or just listening to it on my own, I get goosebumps if the refrain Gloria in excelsis Deo is used.

I’ve really enjoyed your company (and comments) this past year but like many others I’m feeling a bit tired and weary (and for some reason very emotional – drop of the hat tears) so think now is the right time to push the seasonal pause button

    1. Thank you Sue…it’s a fair way to come but appreciated. Weather in Melbourne today is going to be warm and sunny, hope you brought the right kind of clothing😊

    1. Music is healing isn’t it Michele, I intend to have plenty of it playing in the background during the next couple of weeks. Might be something on the table to nibble on as well…..well I shouldn’t but maybe I will….just one or two possibly 😊

  8. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas carols Cathy but my mother LOVES them. She adores Xmas time so she can put them on every day.

    I’m doing an exercise class at the moment and the instructor has been playing Christmas songs – upbeat carols (or remixed carols) or just Christmas-themed songs for each session which has been okay.

    1. Carols do have their place on the calendar – I think they’d lose any meaning if sung year round though.
      Now that’s something I’ve never come across before – using carols as backing music for exercise classes. Christmas songs yes – carols…I’d have to think about.

  9. This time of year can be a bit problematic for many Cathy, can’t it? Thanks for the music hits, I’ve been listening to an eclectic bunch and love the new versions that come out by artists at this time of the year.     1. Oh you’re not wrong there Debbie….as well as ‘the season’ with all its demands, it’s all the other stuff going on statewide, nationwide and world wide that’s causing what I call ‘emotion overload’. Strangely since I wrote this post on Sunday evening I’ve been feeling much better😊

    1. Something must have happened somewhere Linda because I lost my link to your blog about the same time. It’s great that we can ‘read each other’ again. Here’s to another year of reading about how a Kiwi a long way from home has learnt to cope with the many vagaries of life in a very different country.

  12. I prefer traditional renditions of carols too. So many modern ones just sound like dirges. It has been an emotional year for many of us, and yes I have cried a lot this week. So hit your off button and enjoy the break. Happy New Year.

    1. But you really do have something to cry about Cathy….. You have been so brave during the time before and after your loss. I can’t account for my tears which makes me feel like a big sooky lala, crying for no reason.
      Right, I’m definitely closing down the writing side tonight….will read others as they appear, maybe comment but the brain will only be idling certainly not moving along in 4th gear.

Thank you for the Christmas music which always makes me feel uplifted yet at the same time nostalgic for my loved ones who are no longer physically with me (although their spirit will always remain). Merry Christmas to you and best wishes for a happier 2022. It certainly has been a difficult year for many but we got through it! #lifethisweek

    1. Gosh Sue, you’re right, we’ve all been through the wringer this year as well as the previous one and survived; now with the thought there could be a similar one on its way I’m beginning to wonder if we should all be heading for the hills and ‘hermit land’.😊
      Meeting others via Denyse’s link up has been a great way for us to realise that even though our lives are run differently, in actual fact we’re not that different to each other at all and we’re all in this together – I’m certainly looking forward to it again next year. See you there Sue!

  15. Music transports us to other times and Christmas Music does this well. I have been interested in both singing along and listening to Christmas music since I can remember. Teaching Christmas songs to classes way back in 1970s and 80s before we had so much political correctness was fun. I play Christmas music – faves from over the years – in the car and sing along. By Boxing Day, I put it to rest till next time…

  18. It’s been a long and hard year and didn’t Patsy fall ill just before Christmas? That would make a person weepy.

  19. Take your rest, it is well needed and may you feel refreshed and raring to go with keyboard angled just right when you are again ready and able.

    I too am quite emotional, leaky eyes and all but counting the many blessings I’ve had in the past year along with the pitfalls and sadness.
