The turning point……


Yesterday, the shortest day (a turning point in the year) came
and went in a blaze of sunshine.
A glorious sunny winter day, just like several others in the week before it

If I could have a pick I’d choose June 21 as my favourite day of winter
Because Its all change from here in 😊

A chat with my GP also reinforced what friends and commenters here mentioned- what with one thing and another (plus all the goings on in my life) this has been a heck of a time for me (and so many others) there’s no wonder I was down in the dumps and feeling sorry for myself.

So just as the days will become longer and brighter with more hours of daylight as we make our way towards Spring …..hopefully sunshine as well – so will I become less like a someone who feels as though she has the weight of the world on her shoulders.

These last few sunny days have made a difference to the way I feel…..completely different to how it was early last week when I wrote this post.
Things are changing, yes I realise the weather will change again – the wind and the rain will return – but the pool has reopened, one of my craft groups is reopening , it’s possible the Qld border will reopen to Victorians, and I’m off to get my 2nd AZ vaccination tomorrow (no choice there, that’s what they gave us oldies)

It’s not really as simple as brighter lighter days making a lighter brighter person but it will certainly go a long way in turning my mental health in the right direction 😊

  1. I’m also off to have my second shot tomorrow, but it will be on the first day after Summer solstice here in the northern hemisphere. And I already dread the coming shorter days.
    I wish you a better health – mental as well as physical!

  3. And as you celebrate the lengthening of days, we in the northern hemisphere realize our longest day has come and they only get shorter. Oh, but we still have some glorious days of sun and heat ahead of us, and I will enjoy them all, even these days when the oven is turned on high and the temperature bakes us at 112 degrees.

    1. Like you say you have more hot weather to come, it’s the same here in that winter is far from over……only just begun really. It’s the light I’m more interested in. I don’t really mind the cold if it’s dry – wet and dull is what I really don’t enjoy.

  4. I’m going to a Winter Solstice meeting today, when the club is doing something quite different than it’s usual invited speakers, rather around 5 members (who volunteered) will speak on vastly different topics – then it will be afternoon tea…

    I hadn’t even realised the significance of the day until a few days ago … at the moment nearly mid morning there is weak sun, but I see looming grey clouds. As long as it’s not raining around midday when I have to walk to where my current chauffeur lives.

    Most of the “blahs” I’ve had recently have to do with “life issues” one of which I did begin to resolve last week…now I’m working on letting those bad things disappear and think only of good things

    1. Good to hear you’ve managed to resolve one issue- I sometimes wonder if we were so busy in our previous younger days we never let things get on top of us or is these strange strange times having that effect not just on me but everyone else
      And as one door closes another opens…..Victoria has begun opening up again Sydney has discovered their doors have to close- Wellington has been included as well now

      1. Yep, Wellington has fallen with someone coming from Sydney for a weekend, feeling unwell on return flight and then testing positive. Appears had only 4 close contacts but stayed at Rydges, the flights to/from, eateries and some significant tourist type spots. However, they were using our covid tracer app, that’s a plus.

        Fingers x-ed no real harm has been done to our community because the covid-vax hasn’t particularly filtered down in the vulnerable community. I for one have only had the first jab…but at least I’m in Auckland.

  6. Sydney was grey, cold and miserable yesterday and today is looking like more of the same and while it doesn’t bother me a whole lot, a sunny day would be nice.

    I’m glad you are seeing some light att he end of the tunnel.

      It’s strange but even though I know it rains in Sydney I never associate ‘grey cold and miserable’ with it. It must be a shock to the system when it happens.

  7. Glad to hear it.
    We have had a LOT of grey days here. And today is another. I don’t mind (actually like) cooler temperatures but diminished light is less welcome.
    I have my second dose of Astrazenica on the first Sunday in July. Not my choice, but I am grateful to have it just the same.

    1. Lol EC when I thought of you this morning when I saw the temperature hovering at 2c. A fabulous sunrise morphed into another dry sunny day but it’s set to change with windy rainy days forecast for the rest of the week.

  8. Good news for you. You can get some QLD warmth on your bones, as restriction lifting was announced today.

    It does take some time for the days to noticeably lengthen. Good weather does improve you mood, but the remained of this week isn’t looking great and we are away for a few days.

    1. It was really really dark this morning not even what you could call daylight at 7.30am. I think I’m over the hump of whatever was wrong so will accept whatever the weather gods throw at us…..well within reason that is
      And yes Andrew, hopefully we’ll be on the road in two weeks time- hopefully because you never never know what’s going to happen from one day to the next at the moment
