Yesterday was Tuesday 1 June
officially the first day of winter 2021 in Australia.
I wonder what is in store for us this year.
When I had a quick glance late in the afternoon the first week didn’t look too bad – a bit wet maybe but not too cold
Hopefully it’ll be nothing like this ‘poem/carol’.
remembered from my childhood
In the bleak midwinter by Christina Rosetti.
In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan;
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter.
Long ago.
But then this is Melbourne so it could be anything!
Whats the year round weather like in Melbourne? – this might explain – but let’s just say, 4 seasons in one day is quite often the way it’s described 😎☔️⛱⛈☀️💨
Here in central California, where June 1 begins our summer season, the temperature will be around 106 by 5 p.m. Our air conditioner came on at 6 a.m.

And in England it’s also the first day of Summer, and it was a lovely sunny day.

After the long winter you’ve had there I’m sure you enjoyed it Cathy.
We’ll survive- have to have something to talk about don’t we 😊

BOM’s long range forecast is for a ‘relatively’ mild winter. I hope for your sake (and that of a lot of other people) it is.
For myself I am also hoping for at least a few hard freezes. It is time for me to play frozen bubbles again.
I also hope that it is safe enough for your latest lockdown to be lifted. Soon. I fear that this week doesn’t look likely.

It’d be a funny old world if we all liked the same wouldn’t it EC ?
I do like to see your frozen bubbles so am wishing you the coldest temps you are able to survive with……just don’t tell them my address😊

The weekend past in Sydney was surprisingly cold, with a high wind chill factor. I should have taken my Melbourne winter jacket and not my Melbourne Autumn jacket.

At least Sydney can’t blame us for the cold weather they had Andrew, like they do for nearly everything else that goes wrong there. Most of the southern half of Australia was cold as well

The difference being I guess, we know we will be cold in Melbourne in the winter.

I remember traveling to Australia in April which was our spring and finding it was fall Down Under. That was quite an experience and we loved it!

Our ‘winter’ has started with blazing hot mornings and tremendous downpours in the afternoon….have to get the washing out early!

And across the ditch in New Zealand – it’s also the start of winter – but what it will actually be like is anyone’s guess. Today (3rd) it was supposed be some cloud and a lot of sun with the odd shower – there wasn’t any sun! Our weather mapping people often put up a range of “this is today” then the opposite happens – that’s because my region is in the very narrow part of the NI….and we are less an hours drive from coast to coast!
