Shine on silvery moon…..

Last weeks full moon was enormous!

Unfortunately this isn’t it!

I went out several times to try and take photos but no luck……. For some reason the camera I have now doesn’t take great night shots…..So these are some I took of another full moon……way back in May 2010.  That was when I had the old Blogspot blog also called Still Waters 😊

Nights like this always remind me of a special poem from my school days

Silver

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;

This way and that she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;

One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;

Couched in his kennel, like a log
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;

From their shadowy cote, the white breasts peep
Of doves in silver feathered sleep;

A harvest mouse goes scampering by.
With silver claw and silver eye;

And moveless fish in the water gleam.
By silver reeds in a silver stream

    1. I think it’s more luck and chance EC. I do agree having cloud there makes a difference. Without the cloud to add mystery all I seem to get is a shiny blob that has no definition

    1. Thank Gram – every now and again I manage to do something with the camera I’m happy with and these are one of those ‘somethings’
      Do ask Mr G’oogle about Walter de la Mare – there is a link attached to his name that might be of some help to you. His poems were not long – quite easy to read as well. As well as Silver there is one called The Listeners that gives me goosebumps

  6. They are pretty good. The only time I have been able get a decent moon photo was by using the camera shutter timer with the camera on a tiny little tripod sitting on top of a pile of books.

    1. It was one of those cloudy nights when the moon seemed to shine ‘through’ the clouds.
      I’m not that eager/interested to go to those extremes. But good on ya for giving it a go

  8. Oh boy you brought back memories! This poem and Walter De la Mare . We had a ,primary school, teacher who loved him and we were always studying his poetry. Being little kiwis we were not impressed by this ‘stuff’ but his name and poetry has remained with me so I guess I owe her some thanks.
    Looks like you had a similar teacher. Dear la Mare must have been a popular poet of those days

    I have to admit I’ve not heard of Walter De la Mare before…that I can recall, anyway. I do like his poem, so I will now have to check him out. Thanks. 🙂

    1. Cathy…further to your comment on my current post on my blog, and my response to it….I’ve since discovered since writing my response that the Town & Country Hotel-Motel, in Stanley Street, Collinsville…has reopened…and it now operates under the name of “Pit Pony Tavern”. So all is not lost. 🙂
