Sumtumn anyone??

March has arrived and down here in Victoria which has a temperate climate, there is the thought (and knowledge) that even though we are still having some really nice sunny warm days gradually those days will get shorter and even though we won’t like it, become cooler šŸ˜¦

It means that we are in a season I like to call it Sumtumn.
Summer days plus the changes that come along with Autumn
The autumn equinox will be along in a couple weeks
‘equal day and night’

On the day of the Autumn Equinox, the Earthā€™s poles are the same distance from the Sun. The Sun rises due east, sets due west and reaches 52Ā° above the horizon at noon. There are roughly 12 hrs of day and 12 hrs of night.

And along with this promise of shorter days and cooler nights andĀ a general slowing down, for some reason each year I often have a desperate need of a sugar fix. Ā  Unfortunately this year there isn’t much in the sugar line available – thereā€™s nothing sweet in the house – ‘cept me of course lol

So to keep my spirits up, and have my sugar fix at the same time I thought you’d like to hear this Fun Friday joke šŸ˜¦

Why did the JellybeanĀ go to school?

Because it wanted to be a SmartieĀ !

A few years agoĀ Hilary Harper whoĀ used to be the presenter of the Saturday Morning show (onĀ the old 3LO now referred to as 774Ā ABC Melbourne), asked children to ringĀ in with their favourite joke. Ā That was one of them. šŸ™‚

Makes me smile every time I think of it
Hope it did the same for you today.

    1. Yes, cool day today (Friday) it did seem warmer during the afternoon though. But then of course Melbourne is renowned for being able to have four seasons in one day šŸ™‚

  1. I had my laugh also. I love smarties and yes when the cool weather comes so does the appetite at least with me so your not alone there. Can’t wait for Spring which is not too far away but we will definitely still have snow leftover for sure. We sure got more then enough this year.

    1. I’m sure all of the Northern Hemisphere will be glad to see the end of the winter Germaine. Hopefully ours won’t be as bad as that – I’ll be the size of a tank if it is lol

    1. Hello Bethie – I’m hoping you meant the joke made you laugh and not sent you to sleep lol. Don’t you just hate those sleepless nights when the mind keeps racing and won’t slow down.

  2. Love the joke. And the season.
I am always very, very glad to leave the sweaty season behind.
I wish that we celebrated our seasons at the equinox though – it makes more sense to me than picking the first of the month.

  3. I say “lucky you” getting cooler weather. Some how the weather here has forgotten that autumn is meant to be cooler, we are just melting in horrendous temps up in the high 30’s. Anything chocolate has to be put in the fridge or eaten straight away… šŸ™‚

  4. Hi Cathy, I like your word Sumtumn, it really sums up what happens in this transition period. I quite enjoy the cooler days coming, it’s nice being able to rug up… lol, but then some days I’ve rugged up too much!
Love the jelly beans joke, always good to share a smile.. cheers now :D)
