When I woke up this morning……………

Foggy morning front

This is what greeted me – FOG
Yes, all encompasing all enveloping FOG
Providing us with a very spooky looking neighbourhood

Lots of the nearby trees have dropped their leaves but next door’s Oak Tree hangs on until much later in the season.  And that season would be WINTER

Foggy morning sideJune 1 is the first day of the first month of Winter in Australia.
It’s now my time to grizzle about not seeing the sun and feeling its warmth lol

Mind you it’s also a time for looking forward – to seeing all the Spring bulbs.
Like these jonquils that are now rising out of the ground in the rose bed behind the garage.  And also knowing that once we are past the winter solstice (June 21) the days will become longer and that warmth will be returning:)

In the meantime I’ll just have to grin and bear it – and keep that happy thought in mind.  It will be a while before the grass will need a weekly cut so I’ll be able to exchange that exercise for raking up the oak leaves when they drop – that will keep me warm as well lol

  1. Summer is definitely rolling on here. Whew, I think it may be a hot one. Enjoy your cool fog as you wait for your spring! Oak leaves are pretty much the last to fall in the winter too, sometimes the brown leaves hang on until nearly spring.

    1. Yes there are plenty of hangerson where this tree is concerned. They can still be hanging around weeks after everythng else is bare.

  2. Lovely, gentle wet stuff. We get it here often. Night and Morning Coastal fogs they call it. This year we have had a great deal more unexpected sunshine. I’ve been loving it.

  3. Things do look spooky in your fog picture. I love the bright blue flowers on the bush in the second photo. Nice to have them blooming in winter.

    1. It’s called Tibouchina and looks glorious when the sun shines on the petals. Yes it is nice to have winter blooming plants – that and the abutilon are taking the edge off my nasty feeling about the advancing winter

    1. That’s strange – It only seems to come here in Autumn and Winter. Not sure whether I’d like to see it in Summer. I think it would really spoil the feel of the day

  7. Do you have snow in the winter there? We have foggy mornings sometime usually in fall or Spring weather. We are finally getting beautiful sunny days. Don’t sit in the sun now but usually love it in the shade. Makes me feel so much better than a gloomy day.

    1. No no snow where we actually are Germaine – take a 2 hour drive in the middle of winter and you may come across some. Enjoy your summery days – they make me feel better also

  8. Yes the fog was particularly bad yesterday. It this morning I have woken to rain. Good thing I got up early and put lots of wood in the fire so it’s toasty warm. Stay warm and dry xxx

    1. We have the occasional frost but no snow where I actually live – although there have been flurries up in the nearby hills when its really really cold. The snow begins about a 2 hour drive up the road with resorts a bit further out than that. It’s been such a warm Autumn the resorts are not happy – the season tradionally opens next weekend and there is no white stuff up there at the moment.

  12. I love summer, but by the time winter is due, I am looking forward to winter. Unfortunately, winter hasn’t come yet. I do like fog and the feeling of bunkering down it creates. Snuggling up with a book, cuppa and blanket. Heaven.

  17. We had lovely fog here this week as well, that is when I caught my spider webs.
    My oaks are still green but my tulips ares up and my first jonquil is already flowering.
    I love this season when suddenly everything springs back to life and I can get stuck into weeding with the hope that the last moisture will not evaporate as soon as I clear the ground.

  18. We’ve had a lovely spring. I don’t want winter now, but it will come as surely as the night follows the day. For every thing there is a season, a time for mowing, a time for raking, a time for sipping cool drinks, a time for a hot mug of cider.
