Come on Aussie – come on – come on

It comes in all shapes and sizes and variations on the original theme
dating it would seem right back to the 1940s
when it was painted on aircraft in the Second World War
see here for info
Yes its the Boxing Kangaroo
First seen in recent history
when the America’s Cup was taking place in Fremantle
the 1983 design looked like this
and it would seem that the original flag is coming back to Australia
Read the news story here
The rights to the design were then sold to the Australian Olympic Commitee
At the moment a large flag with this design is causing quite a hoo ha
Its hanging over a balcony
in the Winter Olympics Athletes Village
I wonder how this story will end?
all images were gleaned from the internet

  1. I have seen this before, but wasn't sure what it was, and now I'll know next time I see it. By the way, I am envious of your warmer weather — I'm envious of anyone that has temps above freezing!! Stay cool, and I'll stay warm! Enjoy your weekend, and THANKS for visiting my blog! 🙂

  2. I so enjoyed your post. Very interesting history of the flag. I had to smile when I saw the photo of the kangaroo flag hanging in the photo. My first thought was "gosh that brightens up the scenery"! I think it looks great there. In today's world of so much sadness, grief, unrest, etc.,etc. it is a breath of fresh air to see the sight of the Kangaroo flag!

  3. What an appropriate flag. It catches the Aussie character: direct, competitive, combative and fun loving. As for the excitement of it hanging on the balcony in Vancouver: Right on! May others follow suit and defy the petty rules which restrict spontaneous playful declarations.Let the games begin.
